TAKOMO Smart Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Areas

Fortunately, it's not always windy at the top!

The TAKOMO project is piloting digital environmental measurements in the Kokkola Industrial Park (KIP) and promoting the use of continuous measurement devices in environmental measurements. Digital measurements require effective data transfer, which is why a comprehensive base station network must also be installed in the area.

The requirements for a good base station location are a high location, mains power, and the possibility to install an antenna. Most of the four base stations installed in the KIP Industrial Park have been installed on the roofs of buildings. However, the most recent installation took place on top of a 42-meter-high light mast in the deep harbor of Kokkola. The installation site could only be accessed by crane, and even that was not quite high enough. The installer had to climb from the crane basket to the top basket of the light mast with his tools. The mast swayed with even the slightest movement, but fortunately there was little wind at the time of installation and the installation was completed safely. In addition to the base station, weather and noise measurement equipment was installed on the mast. The base station and measuring equipment were purchased as part of the Takomo investment project.
