TAKOMO Smart Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Areas

Digital groundwater measurement network expands

The Takomo project's groundwater monitoring network was expanded by three points in the Kokkola Industrial Park. Three groundwater pipes from Sibanye-Stillwater's Keliber lithium project's Kokkola lithium refinery were connected to the network, which continuously monitors the groundwater level. In addition, one pipe measures the electrical conductivity of the water.

Continuous measurements reduce manual work, as the groundwater levels in the factory area, which is currently under construction, have been actively monitored with a manual meter. The new measurement points add value to the project by complementing the network at the edges of the Patamäki groundwater area. In addition, the project staff will gain new information on continuous electrical conductivity measurement and the commissioning of equipment.

The Takomo project at the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius is a project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the City of Kokkola, focusing on smart environmental monitoring in the Kokkola Industrial Park (KIP). The monitoring is being developed in cooperation with industrial operators in the KIP area. The project is piloting digital environmental measurements and promoting the use of continuous measuring devices in environmental measurements.
