The TAKOMO project has begun its first gas measurements related to air quality monitoring. A Väisälä AQT560 air quality station was installed at the Ykspihlaja measuring point, near the Kokkola Industrial Park. The station measures nitrogen oxides (NO, NO2), ozone (O3), and carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations in the air, as well as air temperature, humidity, and pressure. The device outputs measurement data directly, as all calculations are performed within the device. The device uses electrochemical gas sensors to measure gases, which are consumable parts and require regular replacement. The reliability of the device is enhanced by the fact that it monitors the condition of the gas cartridges and indicates when they need to be replaced. The station is well suited to Finnish winter conditions, as it can withstand temperatures as low as -30 °C.
The TAKOMO project does not involve the construction of an actual gas measurement network in the same way as for groundwater or noise measurements, but we are installing individual gas meters as needed and to gain experience.
