IoT takes food industry training to a new level

Food industry education is taking a new step forward with the introduction of IoT (Internet of Things) technology into the learning environment. The aim is to create authentic, work-based learning situations in which students can utilize real-time data to support production, quality control, and process development.

Concrete steps have been taken in developing the IoT learning environment. In the first phase, smart sensors have been installed in training facilities and production environments to measure temperature, humidity, air quality, and other factors. These sensors continuously collect data that students can monitor and analyze, for example, on visual platforms. This helps them understand how digitalization and automation can support food safety and efficient operations.

Teachers have also deepened their own expertise, and IoT has sparked great interest among them. Thanks to the learning environment, technology is not a separate topic, but is directly linked to everyday life in the industry – for example, cold chain monitoring, hygiene control, and production process optimization.

The project is now focusing on air quality monitoring in bakeries, which you can learn more about in the following video.

Temperature monitoring plays a key role in food production. The following video gives you an idea of how IoT can be utilized in this area.
