The TAKOMO project has begun construction of a fixed real-time noise measurement network in the Kokkola Industrial Park. The purpose of the network is to measure A-weighted sound levels in the peripheral areas of the industrial area. The first measurement point in the network was installed on the sea side of the area and the second at the gate facing the mainland. The noise measurement network is planned to consist of a continuous real-time network of approximately ten measurement points.
The noise measurement equipment has been developed since the beginning of the project, and several versions of the equipment have already been implemented and piloted. The aim has been to develop noise measurement equipment that is reliable in terms of both measurement results and functionality. During the development of the equipment, preparatory work for the measuring points has been carried out in the field. The sites already have power supply equipment ready for the noise meters, so the network can be expanded quickly once the devices themselves are ready.
Of all the sources of emissions in industrial areas, noise is one of the most clearly observable factors affecting the surrounding community. Continuous real-time noise measurement will enable more accurate observation of the noise caused by the site during different periods and, potentially, influence the activities that produce the noise. The project's noise measurement points will be concentrated on the edges of the industrial area, where the combined impact of noise from the industrial area can be observed.
