TAKOMO Smart Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Areas

Industrial environmental measurements on display at Alihankintamessut

The staff of the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius presented digital environmental measurements and adult education at Alihankintamessut held in Tampere from September 30 to October 2, 2025.

The University Consortium's stand focused on presenting real-time environmental measurements and related equipment, such as the noise measurement devices used in the TAKOMO project. Visitors to the fair were particularly interested in the structure and components of the devices. "Many visitors had used Arduino microcomputers, but digital environmental measurements and the possibilities of Arduino's artificial intelligence applications were a new area of application for them," says project manager Timo Hongell, who presented the devices at the fair. The regional multi-point noise measurement implemented in the TAKOMO project also attracted the interest of visitors.

The benefits of digital environmental measurements were also presented on the fair's theme stage, when our research coordinator Mikko Myllymäki gave a presentation on Digitalization improves the efficiency of environmental monitoring in industry. In his presentation, Mikko explained how smart sensor networks and IoT technologies enable more efficient environmental monitoring and promote responsible and sustainable industrial operations. The RDI activities of environmental projects implemented in the Kokkala industrial area were used as an example.

Over the course of three days, the fair attracted more than 18,000 visitors and, including exhibitors, reached a total of 29,000 people.

Project Manager Timo Hogell presented a noise measurement device, among other things, at Alihankintamessut.
