The project implemented an IoT application in the wearables category. The idea for developing the application came from a local health technology company. According to the latest studies too long periods of sitting is linked to a risk for an early death. Can Iot step in?
The application consists of an Estimote bluetooth beacon, which is a bluetooth LE beacon with several sensors. It is capable of operating for several years with battery operation, using BLuetooth Low Energy protocol to transmit temperature, humidity, acceleration, and brightness sensor data nearby Bluetooth devices. The beacon is programmed to send its accelometer data which can be received and displayed every second in a mobile phone. For example, the posture of the person carrying the beacon can be determined in real time and user can be alerted about too long sessions spent sitting. In the piloted solution, the data is sent to the Cinet Cloud cloud service, which can further track and analyze the amount of daily sitting in longer periods.
Using a bluetooth lighthouse in another connection, for example, in a plant's production facility, one could generate data related to corresponding business.
