In the context of the DUDE project, the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius conducted a survey for the region's leading ICT employers. The purpose of the survey was to find out employers' views on what is important to them in the recruitment phase and what kind of general knowledge companies expect from employees. The results of the survey can be used to develop education programs to better meet the needs of businesses. The survey also provides information to the activities carried out in the DUDE project.
According to preliminary results, in the recruitment situation, knowledge and especially its promotion are particulary important. The role of the degree was not emphasized especially in all jobs. Demonstrating one's own skills was considered challenging, especially when the applicant has to demonstrate programming skills. Thus, in recruitment situations, the importance of the portfolio was emphasized. The attitude of the applicant and more than one year of work experience were also important for the recruitment. Of the general areas of expertise, companies seem to value teamwork and communication skills in particular.
