IoT sensor devices to minimize the harm of ice dams

To detect ice dams, a precision thermometer is planned to be used to monitor the water temperature in the vicinity of the dam's power plant. The equipment will consist of a Deltaohm precision temperature logger, and a Raspberry PI computer for its scheduled reading and transmission.

The Raspberry Pi's communication capabilities only include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, but no long-range radio technology. The data will be sent over the LoRAWAN network, and for this purpose the Pi Supply IoT LoRa Node pHAT transmitter add-on will be used, which is attached to the Raspberry Pi computer.

The equipment will be tested on 4 dams.
