TAKOMO Smart Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Areas

Noise Monitoring Network Expands in Kokkola Industrial Park

Two new measurement points have been installed as part of the noise monitoring network being developed around Kokkola Industrial Park. The new points are located along the mainland-side boundaries of the industrial park, one to the south and the other to the north. The network now consists of five noise monitoring devices developed at the Kokkola University Consortium.

The network continuously measures A-weighted sound levels in real time along the boundaries of the industrial area. The aim is to gradually expand the network to approximately ten measurement points.

The TAKOMO project is developing reliable noise monitoring equipment, with a focus on improving measurement accuracy and operational reliability throughout the development process. Preparations for expanding the network have also been carried out in the field. Power supply equipment has already been installed at the planned measurement locations, allowing new monitoring devices to be deployed quickly once they are ready.

Noise is one of the environmental impacts of industrial activity that can be clearly perceived beyond the industrial area itself. Continuous, real-time monitoring makes it possible to track variations in sound levels at different times and identify situations in which noise levels change. The measurement data can help investigate the factors contributing to these variations and support efforts to reduce noise impacts.

Project Manager Timo Hongell and Specialist Markus Rita are installing continuous noise monitoring equipment.
