Our groundwater monitoring network has been strengthened with three new monitoring points, as electrical conductivity and groundwater level measurements were installed around the chemical storage area in the Kokkola industrial park. Groundwater level sensors were installed in two wells, and a third well was equipped with both a groundwater level sensor and an electrical conductivity sensor. In total, our real-time groundwater monitoring network in the Kokkola industrial park now covers 15 wells.
Monitoring groundwater in the industrial park is important, as a wide range of activities are carried out in the area, including operations that lower the groundwater level. In addition, electrical conductivity measurements can indicate potential leaks into the soil and groundwater. The Kokkola industrial park is located near a groundwater recharge area and the sea. Groundwater in the area flows toward the sea, and the activities in the area do not pose a risk to drinking water.
