A versatile Vaisala weather station was installed near the chemical storage area in the Kokkola industrial park.
The weather station supports the safety of the hazardous chemicals storage area by providing near real-time data, particularly on wind direction and speed. In the event of an accident, local wind data plays a key role in assessing and managing the situation.
In addition, the weather station measures several other environmental parameters, such as air temperature, humidity, and precipitation intensity, accumulation, and duration.
LoRaWAN radio technology is used for data transmission, which is why a LoRa node was installed at the site for wireless data transfer. Measurement data is transmitted every five minutes and visualized graphically in the Grafana system. The data is transmitted within the university consortium’s private network, whose coverage is ensured by base stations installed in the area.
